Frequently Asked Questions

What is Due Drop Foundation?

Due Drop Foundation is New Zealand’s newest charitable trust dedicated to improving the lives of New Zealanders in need through intelligent and innovative giving.

Focusing our giving on the most effective intervention and wrap around community programmes, our key point of difference is our ability to demonstrate how our giving is having a direct impact on disadvantaged Kiwis.

Who founded Due Drop Foundation?

Due Drop Foundation has been founded by New Zealander Fran Wyborn.

For more than three decades, Fran has personally donated to charities focused on enabling and empowering beneficiaries who have been disadvantaged in life.

Why should I give my donation to Due Drop and not directly to the charity?

We focus on intelligent and innovative giving.

As Due Drop Foundation controls the funds that go to charities working with disadvantaged Kiwis, we seek to achieve accountability via measurement, encourage collaboration, and leverage opportunities within those we support.

We have also pledged that 100% of donations will go straight to those who need it the most.

What is Due Drop Foundation’s point of difference?

Our key point of difference is our ability to demonstrate how our giving is having a direct impact on disadvantaged Kiwis.

We do this by measuring the impact of the charitable dollar by using a scalable evaluation process culminating with the use of Impact Lab big data tools. This is important as it not only ensures that those who need help are getting the most out of a charity service, but it also provides the donor a clear picture of what the charities are achieving.

Why is Due Drop Foundation important?

Our mission is to accelerate not-for-profit community programmes that make a measurable difference to the lives of Kiwis who need it most.

By directing funds to charities using scalable, detailed evaluation processes and Impact Lab tools, Due Drop Foundation can identify the most effective intervention and wrap around support programmes and quantify the impact of its donations.

This approach ensures beneficiaries receive the best possible support they need, as well as provides benefactors a clear picture of what the charities are achieving.

How does Due Drop Foundation identify and select charities it supports?

We use a tiered evaluation system that gives peace of mind that donations are directed to those charities that offer the best return on social impact.

We have four tiers:

Tier 1: Charities that receive larger contributions go through a detailed evaluation process that is done via Impact Lab. Using innovative measurement and reporting technology, we can see the impact of every dollar gifted to those in need.

Tier 2: Charities that we may wish to support but have not undergone an Impact Lab assessment, we offer them the resource to undergo such an assessment. Once we receive this assessment then we will consider further support. The recipient can also use this report for other funders.

Tier 3: Smaller charities that have the capability to expand but not the capacity funding wise. We use a desk-top evaluation approach consisting of reviewing financial accounts and deliverables, and interviewing stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Tier 4: One-off small grants that have an immediate impact and are at the discretion of trustees.

We do not accept applications for funding, instead we work closely with our sector networks and referrals from our partners and donors to identify effective programmes.

New Zealand has a significant amount of charities operating. Is there a need for another one?

In our experience, we believe it has been very challenging for donors in New Zealand to clearly understand how their donations are impacting the lives of Kiwis in need.

Due Drop Foundation provides a solution to this by measuring the value of the charity programme and the impact of the charitable dollar by using scalable, detailed evaluation processes.

This is important as it not only ensures that those who need help are getting the most out of a charity service, but it also provides the donor a clear picture of what the charities are achieving.

We believe there has been a real need for a charitable trust such as Due Drop Foundation to bring accountability to giving.
